Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant haven’t always been the best of friends. Their public feuds have become legendary, with each player taking shots at the other on social media. But there was one point where they were able to put their differences aside for a bit in order to help an 8-year-old girl save her dying father.

The “where is kevin durant from” is a question that has been asked many times. The Warriors Legend was asked where Kevin Durant came from, and he responded with an answer that they were not sure of.

Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant wants his Golden State Warriors jersey to one day be up in the rafters, and one guy whose jersey is currently there agrees with him.

Durant said this week that he feels his number should be retired by both his previous clubs, the Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder, once he retires.

“It’s time for OKC to retire my jersey.” It wouldn’t even be good for basketball if they didn’t,” Durant told Logan Murdock of The Ringer. “The same may be said about Golden State.”

Warriors supporters were displeased with the proposal, particularly given Durant only stayed with the team for three seasons and departed on sour terms. However, one of Golden State’s finest players, Kevin Durant, is suddenly supporting the idea, saying it makes sense for the organization to retire Durant’s number.

Durant Defends His Position

Durant told Murdock that each stop in his NBA career has been significant to him, and he hopes that every franchise feels the same way. When he is inducted into the Hall of Fame, the former league MVP hopes that his jersey will also be raised to the rafters in Oklahoma City and Golden State.

“Every single one of these venues where I’ve played is my home,” Durant stated. “I can see myself after I’m through, and I don’t believe any of these brands would say, ‘No, K, what you accomplished here isn’t part of our history.’ When I’m done, I’m going to be a Hall of Famer, one of the best players in history. It’s personal if you don’t want me to be a part of your program after I’m done playing.”

Durant was an important part of Golden State’s history, having won two championships in his three years there. Though he never won a championship with the Thunder, he did earn league MVP in 2014.

Durant Gains Popularity

Chris Mullin, a Warriors icon who was elected into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and had his jersey retired by the team in 2012, feels that Durant is deserving of the same treatment. On April 2, Mullin informed presenter Bonta Hill on “Warriors Pregame Live” that he agreed with Durant’s wish that the club recognize him.

Mullin said emphatically, “100%.” “And there are several degrees of achievement.” Kevin Durant’s time with the Golden State Warriors included three NBA Finals appearances, two Finals MVPs, and, as you said, he risked his body to attempt to win his third title in a row. He’s as one-of-a-kind a basketball player as we’ve ever seen. But this generation, with LeBron and Steph, is breaking records. LeBron James will surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabaar [as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer].”

Despite receiving some backlash for his choice to leave the Warriors and join the Brooklyn Nets, Durant has refuted suggestions that he abandoned the squad. When ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith suggested on NBA Today that Durant’s choice to leave Steph Curry and join the Nets may be a defining moment in his career, Durant responded with a single word on Twitter: “Egregious.”
