In a recent blog post, Star Citizen developer Chris Roberts announced that the team has fixed a bug in the currency system. This means all players will have to start from scratch when alpha 3.15 launches.

Star Citizen has confirmed that the alpha 3.15 will feature a full progression wipe and will fix a currency bug.

The official Star Citizen forums contain a handful of significant news for gamers. First, a problem that caused aUEC to vanish was discovered and fixed with a recent hotfix. Though the statement did emphasize that some aUEC may be lost permanently owing to the length of the issue in question, players should notice more realistic space dollars in their space wallets.

That money will be gone forever once alpha 3.15 is released, since all players’ goods, money, and reputation will be wiped clean. CIG’s developers cite a variety of reasons for the full progression wipe, including the application of a progression tuning pass, fixes for some account-related bugs, changes to how items and inventory work, and a full reset of the in-game economy to better understand how things like new death mechanics affect things.

“In the persistent world, players have been amassing riches with no economic drains to balance it out. “Having more data on how players earn and spend money is very useful for designers when selling and other sinks are being developed,” the article explains. “Leveling the playing field would give this data, which will be critical when Death of a Spaceman, Full Persistence, Server Meshing, and other key pillar technologies become available.”

Long-time MMORPG fans may recall that Star Citizen was initially Kickstarted in 2012 for almost $2 million, with a 2014 release date anticipated. It is still in an unfinished but playable alpha as of 2021, after raising approximately $350 million from players via years of ongoing crowdfunding and sales of in-game ships and other assets. It is now the most crowdfunded video game ever, and it has been met with unwavering support from fans and skepticism from detractors. Squadron 42, a co-developed single-player game, has also been frequently postponed.
