James Gunn, the creator of the Peacemaker series, said that he spoke with Elizabeth Banks before casting Stroma in The Suicide Squad spinoff series for HBO Max as Adrian Chase, the psychotic costumed assassin known as Vigilante. Banks worked with Bridgerton in 2012’s Pitch Perfect and in the Gunn-directed Slither and the Gunn-produced Brightburn. Gunn praised Banks for confirming Stroma wasn’t a “a—hole” during live-tweeting at a Twitter watch party for Thursday’s Peacemaker Episode 4, “Chapter 4: The Choad Less Traveled.”

In another bit of #PeacemakerParty trivia, Gunn said that main actor John Cena “almost fell over” as production concluded and the British actor, who portrays American Adrian Chase, returned to his original accent.

Stroma was a late addition to the series when Chris Conrad, who played Young Hercules and Patriot, left out halfway through production on the DC Comics adaption based on last summer’s The Suicide Squad.
“[Stroma] arrived late. We’d previously filmed five and a half episodes with another actor, who is tremendously good, but we couldn’t agree on some points, and I don’t believe he wanted to stay on the series in the long term “In a prior interview with Screen Rant, Gunn said. “So, five and a half episodes in, we brought Freddie in, and I reshot all of his scenes…we re-shot. In five and a half episodes, I directed every scene with Vigilante.”
Christopher Smith (John Cena) is back to fighting for his own freedom five months after recuperating from his mission to Corto Maltese in The Suicide Squad.
Recruited by Task Force X shot caller Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) for Project Butterfly, Smith joins a new team that includes handler Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), tech and tactics expert John Economos (Steve Agee), new recruit Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), the crazed Vigilante (Freddie Stroma), and team leader Clemson Murn (Chukwudi Iwuji).
