If you’ve ever used FaceTime on an iPhone, you’ve surely noticed that the person calling you is superimposed over whatever you’re doing. That’s because the iPhone app doesn’t actually blur out the background of your current screen while you’re on a video call. But with iOS 15, that will soon be a thing of the past.

Recently, I’ve started using video calls on my iPhone to communicate with friends and family. So far, I’ve been pleased with the results. The audio quality is great, my friends have been able to see me clearly, and I can see them just fine. However, I noticed a problem recently: the background of the video calls comes through in the background of the call. This is especially noticeable when I call my mom, but also when I call my friend. The background blurs, and it looks like someone is in the background.

Want to blur your background in video calls on iPhone or iPad running on iOS 15 or iPadOS 15? Here’s how you can do it.

At the WWDC 2021 event, Apple unveiled the next generation of iOS for iPhones. iOS 15 brings a huge list of new features, including some very welcomed FaceTime updates. With these changes, the Cupertino giant has attempted to make FaceTime more competitive with other video-conferencing apps such as Zoom and Skype.

Amongst other things, Apple has added the support for “Portrait Mode” like feature in FaceTime and other video calling apps. This basically means that you will now be able to blur the background of your video calls not only on FaceTime, but also while video calling on third-party apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, etc. This feature is pretty handy for you when you are talking to someone and you don’t want to compromise your privacy.

This is one of the really useful and exciting features that Apple has introduced in their upcoming iOS 15.

This Portrait Mode feature along with many other features, makes Apple’s video calling app more comparable with competitors like Zoom and Skype.

This is a step toward improving FaceTime and making it more suitable for use at work. Here’s everything you need to know about the Portrait Mode feature in FaceTime in iOS 15:

Unfortunately, this feature is not supported on all iPhones. This feature is supported only on iPhones that have the A12 Bionic chip and above. Basically, to use this feature, you will need an iPhone XS or later. And of course, you will need iOS 15.
