What you need to know about Monday’s NBA schedule
Kyle Soppe and Jim McCormick
Superstar centers face battle in South Philly in an ESPN matchup that might be offensively favorable. The 76ers are coming off an overtime victory in Orlando on Sunday night, and they’ll be up against a quick Nuggets attack that ranks 12th in pace over the previous ten games. Not only does tonight’s total (220.5) look to be reachable, but shares of Will Barton ($6,000 on DraftKings) might be profitable given Denver’s wing depletion.
The Lakers will play their first back-to-back in almost a month, which means keeping an eye on LeBron James’ health (they have another one at the end of this week). With The King vying for the scoring crown, it’s only natural that he either plays his usual minutes or sits out entirely. Should he sit, Carmelo Anthony (46 percent availability) recorded 17 points and seven rebounds in the previous game James missed. In the game, Talen Horton-Tucker (93 percent availability) led the Lakers with 18 points.
Draymond Green is slated to return to the floor for the first time in almost two months, but Steve Kerr has said that his playing time would be restricted. Given his unknown status, he’s a hazardous DFS play at best. With time, Green’s comeback might reduce Jonathan Kuminga’s (24.4 minutes per game post-All Star Break) minutes, but don’t get too excited until we see a healthy version of Green.
Important Injuries: Due to a finger injury, Cleveland will be without Jarrett Allen against the Clippers. Kevin Love (70 percent availability) started and had a double-double for the Cavs on Saturday, and in the three games he’s played at least 25 minutes, he’s averaging 10 rebounds. After Doug McDermott was hurt against Indiana on Saturday, Lonnie Walker IV (94 percent available) and Devin Vassell (87 percent available) recently had massive scoring lines at San Antonio. Tonight, the Spurs take on the Timberwolves in a game with a high point total.
Because of a quad injury, Anfernee Simons will be out for the next several weeks. As a result, Portland’s main perimeter playmaker is Josh Hart (53 percent availability). Hart is a must-add in redraft and a strong option for scoring and shooting props after scoring a career-high 44 points against the Wizards on Saturday. Drew Eubanks (98 percent), Trendon Watford (90 percent), and Brandon Williams (97 percent) are all expected to get plenty of action against an Atlanta club on the second leg of a back-to-back.
Backcourt Bull: When Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso (71 percent availability) went down with injury earlier this winter, Chicago lost a lot of defensive identity. Caruso returned to play on Saturday, recording four steals and one block in roughly 30 minutes while Ball was still out. Caruso is a good prop target for steals and stocks, as well as an outstanding defensive force with some passing ability who may aid in redraft teams for tonight’s game with an up-tempo Kings club.
The Night’s Game
76ers’ line (-2.5) 76ers (-145), Nuggets (+125) are the moneylines. 220 points total Total projected by the BPI: 224.5 points 76ers have a higher BPI win percentage than any other team (50.5 percent )
Anita Marks and Erin Dolan talk about some futures to keep an eye on now that Tom Brady has come out of retirement, as well as some NBA action to watch tonight. Listen!
Notable: The Nuggets have failed to cover each of their last four games after a spectacular 13-5 run ATS.
Nikola Jokic under 46.5 total points, assists, and rebounds is the best bet. Jokic’s ability to create from wherever on the floor, especially against a giant like Joel Embiid, is something I admire, as he’s regularly defeated other colossal centers like Rudy Gobert. So, why am I sinking? Because Embiid is drawing fouls at an alarming pace, and there’s a potential Jokic may be forced to sit out some time due to foul problems. Embiid has averaged 16.4 FTA over his previous seven games, and he often fouls opposition big men on the bench. Snellings, André

Bucks is a term used to describe a group of people who (-2) Bucks (-129), Jazz (+106) are the moneylines. Total points: 233.5 Total projected by the BPI: 230.5 points BPI Victory Percentage: Jazz (55.2 percent )
Notable: The Jazz have only covered one of their last seven games and have gone under the total in 11 of their last 16.
Hassan Whiteside is a fantasy streamer. With Udoka Azubuike out with an ankle ailment and Rudy Gobert uncertain with a foot injury, Whiteside (62 percent availability) has a good chance against the Bucks. When given the chance, Whiteside has shown he can be productive. This season, he has averaging 18.4 points and 17.2 rebounds per 40 minutes. Eric Moody’s remark
Cavaliers is a line (-6.5) Cavaliers (-260), Clippers (+210) are the moneylines. Total points: 211.5 Total projected by the BPI: 212 points
Cavaliers have a higher win percentage than the BPI (65.8 percent )
Notable: In Cleveland’s last 11 home games, under tickets have paid in 10 of them.
The Cleveland Cavaliers’ Brandon Goodwin drives to the basket. Ken Blaze is a sports reporter for USA TODAY.
Brandon Goodwin is a fantasy streamer. With Caris LeVert and Lauri Markkanen uncertain and Rajon Rondo doubtful, Goodwin is a streaming option versus the Clippers in deeper settings. He’s available in 99.8% of ESPN leagues, averaging 13.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 8.5 assists per 40 minutes. — gloomy
Hawks are the team’s nickname (-12.5) Hawks (-900), Blazers (+600) are the moneylines. Total points: 233.5 Total projected by the BPI: 228 points Hawks have a higher win percentage than the BPI (88.3 percent )
Notable: Portland has lost four consecutive road games (and seven of their last nine). The past four road defeats have been by a combined score of 115 points.
Hornets is a fictional character (-8.5) Hornets (-400), Thunder (+310) are the moneylines. 232 points total Total projected by the BPI: 225.5 points Hornets (BPI Win Percentage) (74.1 percent )
Notable: The Hornets have covered three of their last four games when they are favorites, but have failed to cover three of their last four games when they are underdogs.
LaMelo Ball above 33.5 total points+ assists + rebounds is the best bet. Ball has averaged 20 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 7.0 assists per game in his previous four outings. He has a Usage Rate of 29% for that time period. This season, the Thunder have given up 21.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 9.5 assists per game to point guards. — gloomy
Timberwolves, in a nutshell (-5.5) Timberwolves (-210), Spurs (+170) are the moneylines. 240 points total Total projected by the BPI: 231.5 points Timberwolves (BPI Win Percentage) (58.8 percent )
Notable: The total has been under in four consecutive Spur games, and San Antonio has failed to cover six of their last seven.
Jakob Poeltl above 26.5 total points+ assists + rebounds is the best bet. Over the last seven games, Poeltl has averaged 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in 32 minutes per game. The Timberwolves enable their opponents to get a lot of offensive rebounds and shoot a lot of shots inside four feet of the hoop. Centers have averaged 23.4 points per game, 15.5 points per game, and 3.5 points per game. This season, in games versus Minnesota. — gloomy
Warriors, in a nutshell (-12.5) Warriors (-800) vs. Wizards (+550) on the moneyline 225 points total Total projected by BPI: 234 points Warriors have a higher win percentage than the rest of the BPI teams (79.2 percent )
Are the Warriors on their way back? After losing four consecutive games ATS, they’ve covered four straight games. The strange aspect isn’t that they’re covering it up; it’s how they’re doing it. During the aforementioned ATS losing run, the under has hit in each of their last three games, while the over has gone 3-1.
Bulls, to be precise (-5.5) Bulls (-210), Kings (+170) are the moneylines. Total points: 235.5 Total projected by the BPI: 225 points BPI Victory Percentage: Kings (51 percent )
Notable: The Bulls have had seven of their last eight games fall under the total, with just two of those games going above the total.
Alex Caruso is a fantasy streamer. Due to left knee pain, Zach LaVine is doubtful for Monday night’s game. Caruso, on the other hand, is a streaming potential regardless of LaVine’s health. On Saturday, he returned to the court after wrist surgery and looked strong. Caruso has averaged 12.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per 40 minutes while also contributing steals and blocks when he is 71 percent available. — gloomy
Domantas Sabonis above 34.5 total points + assists + rebounds is the best bet. Over the previous eight games, Sabonis has been a vital part of the Kings’ attack. He has averaged 18 points per game, 13.4 rebounds per game, and 6.4 assists per game while playing 33.5 minutes per game. This season, power forwards have averaging 21.3 points per game, 10.3 rebounds per game, and 3.7 assists per game against the Bulls. Consider what Sabonis can do to them. — gloomy
Under 235.5 points is the best bet. With the return of their greatest perimeter defender, Alex Caruso, the Bulls’ streak of unders received a lift on Saturday. In youngster Davion Mitchell, the Kings have one of the finest perimeter on-ball defenders in the game. This decision is supported by the fact that the BPI predicted total is more than 10 points below the line. Snellings –
Raptors, in a nutshell (-5) Raptors (-195), Lakers (+160) are the moneylines. Total points: 224.5 Total projected by the BPI: 223 points Raptors have a higher win percentage than the BPI (62.9 percent )
Notable: If you want to bet on their being points scored in this game, the Raptors are 10-1 in their last 11 games with the total going over.
Over 224.5 points is the best bet. The Lakers are now in free decline, especially on the defensive end of the floor. They’ve let up an average of 125.5 points per game in their last six games, while averaging 243.5 points per game with their opponents. In all six games, they scored a total of 224.5 points. It’s hard to see this club putting out a strong defensive effort just one day after allowing the Suns to score 140 points. If Phoenix hadn’t taken their foot off the accelerator in the fourth quarter, the score may have been much worse. Snellings –
